Eddie Mathews (1931-2001) was one of the premier home run hitters of the 1950s and '60s. Nicknamed "Cap'n Eddie," the Texas-born Mathews played his 1952-1968 big league career with the Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers, amassing 2,315 hits, 512 home runs, 1,453 runs batted in and a lifetime batting average of .271.
